Laughter
by
Tammy Miser
I
recently received a call from a friend and when she asked if it was a good
time I was a little ashamed to admit but yeah it was a good time.
There is really nothing wrong with having time on your hands or
time to yourself so no shame in that I guess but I had been surfing for
news (which I tend to peek at from time to time while I am working on the
different aspects of USMWF) and came across a comedy skit; I was glued to
the preverbal boob tube.
My
search for a good laugh happens occasionally and I have always thought of
these as juvenile moments because let’s be honest most comedy consist of
making fun of others or there misfortunes something I am wholly against
but there are very few of us who can resist.
Who hasn’t snickered at a good spill, which my family has even
appropriately or inappropriately titled “a lip skid”.
Then there are the guy’s favorite; bodily functions and this is truly an
inherited trait. My son can't resist chuckling over flatulence and the
belching of ABC’s. If we
women are honest we have had a giggle or two over what most call the
“walking farts” it just happens with age but the younger generation
can’t get over it.
My favorite is the contagious laugh some people just have it and when they
start it spreads likes wildfire. Kids
tend to bring us to our knees with their mischievous giggles; you know the
kind that starts out because they are up to something and ends up a
hysterical event because they accomplished there devious goal.
I
realize this topic seems way off target but there is a point to my
madness. Is
Laughter The Best Medicine? concludes laughter can effect blood
flow, the immune response, blood sugar levels, relaxation and sleep.
In
Dr. Candace Pert book Molecules
of Emotion she states "The
chemicals that are running our body and our brain are the same chemicals
that are involved in emotion. And that says to me that . . . we’d better
pay more attention to emotions with respect to health." And
in the Bible or “Little Books” it states in “A cheerful heart is
good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones Proverbs
17:22 "
I
don’t know about you all but it’s hard enough to keep my skin
conditioned let alone my bones…ok I never said I could tell a good joke
I just enjoy a good laugh. Go
out and have a good time we all need it and if you feel you don’t need
it maybe someone you love does!
